The instructors dressed for the occasion, too. Noelani and Uluwehi wore floor-length ruffled muumuu—the charming kind seen less and less frequently in Hawaii. The identical twins were eleven years old when they first heard Hawaiian music on an episode of Magnum, P.I. Enchanted, they searched for its source. Sixteen years later they found Halau Hula o Manoa. During their first practice with the troupe, they were thumbing through record collections and discovered “He Pua Wehiwa”—the song from Magnum. They’ve been hooked on hula and Hawaiian music ever since. During their workshop, the twins taught in French but sang in Hawaiian. Their lovely, sonorous voices drifted across the river.
